Motorcycle competition from an early age
Scott van Iperen began riding motorcycles at nine years of age. His experience developed across motocross, trials and enduro, including involvement with Brisbane Motorcycle Trials Club.
His involvement progressed beyond recreational riding. Scott competed at semi-professional level and became a national-championship contender. The black-and-white programme from the final round of the 1977 Queensland Trials Championship records part of that period in his competition history.
Motocross, trials and enduro
Scott’s motorcycle history spans three different competition disciplines. Trials centres on controlled riding through technical sections. Motocross takes place in direct competition on a prepared off-road circuit, while enduro involves longer events across changing terrain.

Road cycling competition and triathlon
Scott also competed in road-cycling events and triathlons. In the inaugural 160 km Portfolio Partners Brisbane-to-Noosa ride on 8 June 2008, the published Open Men results placed Scott 11th, 12 minutes 46 seconds behind the winning time.
Scott participated in the Brisbane-to-Noosa event with the Heart Foundation-associated Ride with the Docs group.
His cycling history also includes the Brisbane-to-Gold-Coast Cycle Challenge and MS Queensland Brissie to the Bay rides.
From junior squash squads to senior A grade
Scott’s squash history began in junior squads and progressed through State League competition.
He later played senior A-grade squash as part of a Brisbane team. That progression records sustained participation from junior development through organised state competition and senior team play.
Flying at Redcliffe and the F-111 visit
Scott’s flying days included time with Redcliffe Aero Club and Redcliffe Flying Services. His aviation experiences also included sitting in an F-111 at RAAF Base Amberley.
Scott’s archive includes a photograph of him seated in the front cockpit of a Pitts S-2 aerobatic aircraft used in a Winfield cigarette advertising campaign.
